The Butterfly Project is dedicated to giving back to the community of single parents who are currently Canadian citizens residing in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). We are here to create a future in which the nominated candidate(s) have an opportunity to create a new beginning in life where their struggles are put in the past, undergoing a complete transformation process inside and out.
Our core values are set with integrity, leadership, community, and empowerment for the sole purpose of living a life given by creation rather than by circumstance.
While the project does not have a specific monetary value, the award will total up to $50,000 in services, training, and professional development. These will be created with the candidate based on their given circumstances.
I am a single mother of three children. When their father passed away quite suddenly in the summer of 2017, I was completely alone, left to raise our children without any help. I had no idea what I was going to do. I did not know what our future would look like or how I would be able to support my children all on my own. I felt lost, alone, and that there was no one who would help or even truly care about what happened to us. We were just another single-parent family, a statistic. But then as if by some miracle, I was nominated for The Butterfly Project program and received the honour of being chosen as the recipient of the 2018 Butterfly Project Award.
The Butterfly Project came into my life at a time when I was entirely overwhelmed. The board members and all the volunteers who have given of their time and talents to support me and my family showed me that there are compassionate people who do really care and who want to support single parents. Not only are they committed to assisting however they can, their mandate is to make sure that I am able to succeed and to give my children the lives that I so desperately want for them, with no limits to their opportunities. Because of the generosity of all those involved with The Butterfly Project and the Aesthetic and Hairstyling School of Canada where I am currently enrolled in school and working towards obtaining my degree in medical aesthetics, I have the chance to pursue a career that I am passionate about while still being able to ensure my children have all the opportunities that I want to provide for them as well.
I am also thrilled and excited to be part of the Selection Committee for this year’s recipient to be able to already begin to pay forward everything The Butterfly Project has done for me and my family!
